As of now, students may start signing up for free digital JASNA memberships throughout 2024 and 2025. Below is a FAQ that President Mary Mintz (who came up with the idea for the free student memberships and has championed it into fruition) sent to board members and that should answer most of your questions. Student Membership 250 th Birthday Offer
Who is eligible for the Free Student Membership offer?
Between March 1, 2024, and December 31, 2025, Student Memberships will be available free
of charge to students currently enrolled in a course of study leading to a high school diploma,
college/university degree, trade or professional license or certificate, or equivalents of these.
Students are required to indicate their current course of study on the membership application
form.
Are students enrolled in online degree-granting programs and home-schooled students
eligible to take advantage of the Free Student Membership offer?
Yes
Can teachers or educational institutions set up free memberships on behalf of their students?
No. Teachers and professors can inform students about the free membership offer, but
students must enroll on their own. By becoming a member, a student consents to receive
notices from JASNA regarding access to digital publications and other information and renewal
notices relevant to the membership.
What is the term of the Student Membership?
A Student Membership starts on the date of enrollment and expires one year later. For
example, a membership that starts on June 1 will be active through May 31 of the following
year. JASNA memberships are not transferrable.
Can Student Members receive printed copies of JASNA News and Persuasions?
No, Student Memberships only include digital versions of JASNA’s publications. You will be
notified by email when the latest edition of a publication is available to download from JASNA’s
Member Portal.
I already have a paid Student Membership in JASNA. Can I get a refund? No, refunds are not
available for existing memberships. However, when your current paid membership expires, you
may renew it in 2024 or 2025 with a free student membership, as long as you will still be a
student when the free membership goes into effect.
Can I renew a free membership with another free membership?
Yes, a free Student Membership that expires between March 1 and December 31, 2025, may be
renewed with another free membership. Memberships expiring after December 31, 2025, will
be renewable at the then-current Student Membership fee.
